About the Contributors

In preparing materials for the Colleges of Distinction website, the Student Horizons team is fortunate to have the assistance of many members of the education community, offering readers a more complete perspective on college education today.

College presidents express their visions for higher education. Deans, vice-presidents and faculty share their experiences in such areas as student life, admissions and teaching. Many students from Colleges of Distinction schools contribute their perspectives on the college search and college life, while alumni, parents, and other members of the college community write to let readers know about their experiences.

Finally, our team includes a number of high school guidance counselors who share tips, tools and thoughts about admissions from the high school view. Members of the Student Horizons staff also provide several features, based on their various experiences as residence life personnel, as educators, and as graduates of the Colleges of Distinction.

The initial selection of a College of Distinction came from a national team of educators and admissions professionals who identified schools that excelled in the four areas of distinction: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Communities and Successful Outcomes. A follow-up poll of high school guidance counselors from across the nation was then conducted. Their choices formed the basis for the final College of Distinction list.
