Dominican Honored for Outstanding Service
to Local Community Schools
Dominican University, in collaboration with San
Miguel Schools, received third place honors for
this year’s Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership
Award for Campus-Community Collaboration. To date,
Dominican University students have volunteered
nearly 2,000 hours of service in San Miguel classrooms
and summer camps.

Lycoming College Publication Brilliant
Corners Awarded National Grant
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has
awarded Lycoming College’s publication Brilliant
Corners: A Journal of Jazz & Literature with
a $10,000 grant to support the marketing and promotion
of the only national literary journal dedicated
to jazz-related literature.

College
Nobel Peace Prize Winner Speaks at Meredith
On September 14, Meredith College welcomed Nobel
Peace Prize recipient Shirin Ebadi, who delivered
the 2006 Lillian Parker Wallace Lecture. Ebadi
spoke to a full house in Jones Auditorium, and
her speech was also broadcast to several on-campus
locations. In total, nearly 1,000 people viewed
the event. Ebadi was awarded the Nobel Prize in
2003 for her work as a human rights attorney in
her native Iran.

OWU’s Spring Break Mission Project
Members Announced
Spring break might mean relaxing, going to a beach,
or catching up on the “latest” from
hometown friends - but not for the OWU students
on mission projects. Spring Break Mission Week,
in keeping with the Ohio Wesleyan University mission
of education for leadership and service, provides
a variety of unique opportunities to respectfully
serve and experience other cultures.

Franklin Pierce College to Become Franklin
Pierce University
The Board of Trustees of Franklin Pierce College
has voted unanimously to make the school’s
transition to university status official and change
its name to Franklin Pierce University, effective
July 1, 2007. “Our transition to university
status goes far deeper than a name change,”
President George J. Hagerty said. “It affirms
our place in higher education today and it will
carry us forward as an institution with great
ambitions – for ourselves and our students."

of St. Mary
CSM to Add Graduate Programs
College of Saint Mary has announced that it has
received official notification from The Higher
Learning Commission of the North Central Association
of Colleges and Schools of approval and accreditation
to offer graduate programs. Beginning with the
Spring 2007 semester, CSM will offer a master
of science in nursing degree; and a master of
science in education with specialization tracks
in assessment leadership, classroom technology,
and English as a second language.
