Westmont Receives Anonymous $75 Million Gift
An anonymous donor has given $75 million to Westmont, the second largest gift ever for a national liberal arts college. “I have been very impressed with Westmont students and graduates and believe that these young men and women will make a difference in the world,” the donor said.

Butler University Launches $125 Million Campaign
On Oct. 20, Butler University announced the public phase of ButlerRising, a comprehensive campaign to raise $125 million to increase the number of endowed student scholarships, add resources for faculty recruitment and support, and make other investments in “human capital.”

Luther College Invited to Participate in 100 Projects for Peace
Luther College has been invited to participate in a peace initiatives leadership program called 100 Projects for Peace. Funded by a $1 million gift from Kathryn Wasserman Davis, a lifelong internationalist and philanthropist who is about to turn 100 years old, 100 Projects for Peace will be undertaken by students at the 76 Davis United World College Scholars institutions across the United States.

New President Inaugurated
The inauguration for University of Montevallo president Dr. Philip C. Williams took place on Thursday, Oct. 12, the University’s 110th Founders’ Day, during the annual convocation ceremony. Dr. Williams is the University of Montevallo’s 14th president.

Ralph Nader to Deliver Lecture 'The End of Habeas Corpus'
Civil rights advocate Ralph Nader will deliver a lecture, “The End of Habeas Corpus,” Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the Faculty Commons of the School of Law Center. Nader will discuss the Military Commissions Act of 2006, a new law that suspends the right of habeas corpus for aliens whom the president has determined to be enemy combatants.

The Political Engagement Project at the Richard Stockton promotes the skills, understanding and motivation of students in their own political engagement, whether in the community, public policy or electoral politics. This non-partisan project is aimed at encouraging political discourse and civil action among students, peers, faculty, and administration with the goal of increasing students’ life-long political engagement.
