Oprah Winfrey Show Features Wittenberg Alumna Dedicated to Helping the Homeless
Sufiy James Davis, Wittenberg University class of 2000, made an appearance on the nationally syndicated Oprah Winfrey Show Friday, Jan. 26. In true Wittenberg "Pass It On" tradition, Davis has been purchasing tickets for homeless members of the Columbus community to view the movie, Pursuit of Happyness, the true story of a once-homeless single father who eventually became a successful stock broker, which stars Will Smith and has been nominated for two Golden Globe awards.

U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Lee Teaches at Mills this Spring
Congresswoman Barbara Lee, an alumna from Mills College, and Delaine Eastin, distinguished visiting professor of educational leadership, co-teach a course on public policy at Mills this spring. Entitled “Real Policy, Real Politics,” the course is designed to introduce Mills students to the intersection of electoral politics and policy making. Topics will include the process of political engagement and campaigning, political analysis, and procedures for effective policy research and presentation.

HPU Crosses $20 Mill Mark in Sharing the Vision Campaign
Howard Payne University President Dr. Lanny Hall announced that the university has crossed the $20 million mark in the Sharing the Vision capital campaign. “The Sharing the Vision campaign is the most successful in Howard Payne University history,” said Hall. The Sharing the Vision capital campaign effort, with an ultimate goal of $25 million, has already made many campus enhancements possible and has provided considerable funding for endowments and scholarships.

Lady Trojans Ranked No. 2 In First Region Poll
The Anderson University women's basketball team is ranked No. 2 in the first East Region poll of the season. Anderson, 14-2 overall, is one of four CVAC teams in the top eight. Four teams in the top eight in the East Region poll is a first for the CVAC. Glenville State (14-2), last year's East Region runner up, is ranked No. 1 in the poll.

Son of MLK Encourages Community Involvement
Greeted with a standing ovation, Martin Luther King III addressed the 500-person audience at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, with “My Father’s Teaching and Our Challenge”— encouraging everyone to actively engage and participate in the local community to create a better America. The oldest son of Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, his talk was part of Penn State Behrend’s 2007 King holiday celebration and the college’s annual Speaker Series.

Original Marlboro Man is Distinguished Speaker
A Tri-State University graduate who first gained notoriety as the original Marlboro Man in the 1950s television commercials will elaborate on the magic of image creation when he appears as the next TSU Distinguished Speaker on Monday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. in Best Hall Room 229. William Thourlby earned his B.S. and B.A. at TSU before moving on to star in the commercials and perform in numerous television shows and movies, including TV’s “Hawaii Five-O” and the 1962 film, “The Manchurian Candidate.” | Learn More about Tri-State University
