Lake Superior State University Banished Words List
Lake Superior State University proposes the 32nd annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-Use, Over-Use and General Uselessness. On Dec. 31, 1975, former LSSU Public Relations Director Bill Rabe and some colleagues cooked up the whimsical idea to banish overused words and phrases and issued the first list on New Year's Day. Much to the delight of word enthusiasts everywhere, the list has stayed the course into a fourth decade.

University of Puget Sound
Univ. Puget Sound No.1 in the Peace Corps' List of Top Colleges and Universities
This year, the University of Puget Sound moved up four spots to No. 1 on the top 25 list for small schools with 30 alumni currently serving as Peace Corps Volunteers. Since Peace Corps' inception, 220 alumni of Puget Sound have joined the ranks. Changes marked this year's list, especially at the top.

Bethany Grad Joins Mariners' Broadcast Team
The Seattle Mariners have announced Dave Sims as the newest member of their broadcast team. The announcement, which came Thursday, January 11, 2007, said Sims will focus on play-by-play duties on the Mariners' television broadcasts. Sims, a Philadelphia native, graduated from Bethany in 1975 with a degree in Communication. After graduation, Sims started out as a sportswriter for the New York Daily News and then went on to become a two-time Emmy Award-winning sportscaster.

Niagara University
NU Learning Environment Exceeds National Norm
A nationwide study of effective educational practice has found that Niagara University seniors rank their institution higher than the national average in four of five benchmark areas and equal in a fifth. The 2006 report from the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), found that senior students ranked NU above the national averages in active and collaborative learning, student-faculty interaction, enriching educational experiences and supportive campus environment.

Westminster College
Recent Speaker Reported to Be New Head of U.S. Military Forces in Iraq
Administration officials are reporting President Bush will select Lt. Gen. David Petraeus, who just spoke at Westminster College in Fulton, MO on Sept. 20 as the new commander of the multinational forces in Iraq. Petraeus would replace Gen. George Casey as a part of a complete overhaul of the Bush administration's diplomatic and military team in Iraq.

Professor Selected as Kentucky's Professor of the Year
The announcement naming Dr. Frank Wiseman as the 2006 CASE Professor of the Year for Kentucky came as little surprise to the faculty and students already familiar with his teaching and classroom prowess at Georgetown College. Recognized by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, Wiseman traveled to Washington D.C. recently to accept the award.
