Spelman College Breaks Ground for a 'Greener' Future
Spelman College will take a bold step toward environmental responsibility and will make history at the same time with the ground breaking for a new "green" residence hall on Friday, October 20 at 12 p.m. This new residential facility, the first new construction of the 21st Century at Spelman, is on track to become the first in the Atlanta University Center community, and the first HBCU to attain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification through the U.S. Green Building Council.

Free Bike Rides to Class
Students and professors can get to class on time, save gasoline, and reduce production of greenhouse gasses in a new "SMCM Re-cycle Free Ride" bicycle program at St. Mary's College of Maryland. The program is the latest in the College's many environmental sustainability programs.

Green Mountain College
Green Mountain College Becomes Cow Power Campus
In a state where it's often theorized there are more cows than people, Green Mountain College believes it may now be the nation's first cow-powered campus. The sustainably-focused liberal arts college of 750 students has just announced its enrollment in Central Vermont Public Service's Cow PowerTM program, through which the utility delivers energy created from burning methane from cow manure on Vermont dairy farms.

Clean Water Institute (CWI) Awarded Three "Growing Greener" Grants
The Lycoming College Clean Water Institute (CWI) was recently awarded three Growing Greener grants totaling more than $57,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). CWI's three grants were part of Governor Rendell's $27 million investment to clean up streams and rivers, address serious environmental problems at abandoned mine sites and revitalize communities across Pennsylvania.

Al Gore to Speak on "An Inconvenient Truth"
Al Gore, the 45th vice president of the United States, will give a free public lecture at Hamilton College on Thursday, April 26. His lecture, "An Inconvenient Truth," will be accompanied by a multi-media presentation on which his best-selling book and film by the same name are based.

Northland College
Northland College Students Learn about Tracking
Northland College students had an opportunity to learn about wildlife tracking from one of the nation's best trackers in December. Wildlife tracker Jim Halfpenny, Ph.D. provided a free workshop for students, which was packed with quality tracking skill training and information about large carnivore ecology. The workshop took place in both classroom and field settings.
