Willamette Runner Wins National Title
Willamette University cross country runner Sarah Zerzan battled a wet and muddy course to win the women’s individual title at the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships in West Chester, Ohio, Nov. 18. The junior from San Carlos, Calif., was the first of 279 runners to cross the finish line, becoming Willamette’s first national champion in cross country.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to speak at Iona
On January 23, 2007, Associate Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia will act as a visiting professor at Iona College. Scalia is set to present "On Interpreting the Constitution" as part of The Jack Rudin & John G. Driscoll Distinguished Visiting Professorship program.

Biology Professor Featured in December Issue of Smithsonian
Life as a scientist studying the rainforest canopy has its challenges. But sometimes even hardship has its rewards...like when the editors of Smithsonian magazine call for a feature interview.  Such is the case for New College of Florida Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies Meg Lowman, who is featured in the December issue of Smithsonian discussing her research on forest canopies and her recently-released book It's a Jungle Up There.

Student Premieres Play at Cornell College
"Peach Blood," a play written by Cornell College senior Holli Gipson, is "alternately funny and chilling, and always painfully human," said director and theater department chair Mark Hunter on the eve of the production's premiere at Cornell. Gipson, an English and theater major who intends to pursue graduate studies in playwriting after a two-year Peace Corps stint in Africa, says, "It's a great feeling to see it come to life."

$2.96 Million Gift Endows Pat Walker Teacher Education Program
The University of the Ozarks has announced a $2.96 million gift from the Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation of Fayetteville that will give teacher education in Arkansas another big boost. The gift will endow the maintenance and operations of the University’s Walker Hall, the 34,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art, teacher education and communications center that opened on the Ozarks campus in 2002.

Social Activities Committee Wins "Excellence in Programming" Award
The Social Activities Committee (SAC) at Hope College has again won the "Excellence in Programming Award" from the Mid America Region of the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA). A school may receive the honor at most every other year, and Hope was also recognized in 2004 and 2002.
