Professor Receives Fulbright for Upcoming School Year
Safia Swimelar, assistant professor of political science, at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship for the 2006-07 academic year. Swimelar will travel to Bosnia, where she will continue work on her research project that is examining the process of human rights change in post-communist Europe. MORE>>

Lawrence Receives Record $15 Million Gift for New Campus Center
President Jill Beck announced on August 7 that Lawrence has received a $15 million gift toward the construction of the new campus center from a friend of the college who wishes to remain anonymous. The donation is the largest philanthropic gift in Lawrence's history and represents a major milestone in the funding of the proposed $32.7 million facility. MORE>>

TCNJ Biology Alumnus Elected to National Academy of Sciences
Joseph R. Ecker ’78 has been elected to membership in the National Academy of Sciences. The announcement was made on April 25, 2006 at the academy’s 143rd annual meeting in Washington, DC. Election to the academy recognizes distinguished and continuing achievements in original research, and is considered one of the highest honors accorded a U.S. scientist. MORE>>

HBU Announces New President
The Houston Baptist University Board of Trustees elected Dr. Robert B. Sloan, Jr. as the University's President at a special called meeting on August 8, 2006. Sloan will assume the role of HBU President September 1, 2006, serving as the University's third President since its founding in 1960. Sloan most recently served as Chancellor of Baylor University, following his service as Baylor's President from 1995-2005. MORE>>

Clarkson Students Expand Their Business Education Beyond U.S. Borders
Four Clarkson students recently found out how much can be gained by viewing the global economy from another country’s perspective. The students, from Clarkson’s School of Business, returned to the U.S. on July 12 from a two-week visit to Riva Del Garda in the province of Trentino in Northern Italy. While there the students met with Italian entrepreneurs and gained a better understanding of the Italian approach to business. MORE>>

Saint Mary's Breaks Ground on New Hall
Saint Mary's has broken ground on an academic hall that will house its newly named Kalmanovitz School of Education. Construction of the $23.4 million building began on May 22 and should be completed by September 2007. In addition to housing the School of Education, the building will house classrooms, faculty and administrative offices and various academic support services. MORE>>
