Taylor University hosted a first-of-its-kind conference
combining aerospace executives, university faculty and
students and business leaders on Monday, July 24th. The
conference brought Indiana aerospace and space science
communities together with university faculty and students
and business professionals to focus on workforce development,
policy creation and other general research initiatives.

Dr. Andrew Westmoreland became the 18th president of Samford
University on June 1, 2006. Prior to his selection as
president by the Samford Board of Trustees, he served
eight years as president of Ouachita Baptist University,
and on the administrative staff for more than 19 years

Niagara Breaks Ground for New Academic Complex
Niagara recently broke ground for the institution’s
first new academic complex in more than 30 years. Site
preparation and utility installation is already under
way for the $18.65 million complex, which is scheduled
for completion in August of 2007. The three-story building
will include the complete renovation of Perboyre Hall

Students Find Significant Omissions with MSHA
Reports
West Virginia Wesleyan College students have found significant
omissions with Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA)
coal mining accident reports. Dr. Kathleen Long, professor
of communication, and Dr. Robert Rupp, professor of history,
and twenty-one Wesleyan students developed units of analysis
and categories to code the federal mining fatal accidents

Prescott
College
Students Take Journey through Historic Colorado
Plateau
Fourteen students and three instructors from Prescott
departed in rafts last fall from Flaming Gorge, Utah on
the Green River to begin a legendary journey. After seventy-two
days of floating in rafts through the Colorado Plateau,
while pursuing rigorous academic study, the group emerged
having completed a large portion of John Wesley Powell’s
historic descent of the Green and Colorado rivers.

Avila University Researchers Return from St. Vincent
An Avila undergraduate research group, consisting of four
faculty and 11 students, recently returned from the Caribbean
island of St. Vincent, where it conducted studies of the
island’s amphibians and reptiles. Results of these
studies will be used by the Forestry Department of St.
Vincent and the Grenadines to recommend and implement
