Have an exciting time

  • Mount Union focuses on the total experience of each student, not just on academics. Its commitment to providing a liberal arts education affirms the importance of reason, open inquiry, living faith, and individual worth. Service learning is frequently incorporated into Mount Union classes, though it is not required. Some examples include a recent class in international politics, where students invited speakers to campus to talk about AIDS; a concert held on campus to raise funds for a girl in Africa in need of heart surgery; and a class assignment to create a promotional DVD for a day-care facility.
  • Mount Union students participate in community service outside of the classroom as individuals or as members of groups or Greek organizations. During Make a Difference Week, students can choose from numerous service projects, as well as a fund drive for the United Way. Students have built a labyrinth for a local church and have participated in a Keep Ohio Beautiful campaign by planting flowers. The Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) education honor society collected and donated four hundred pounds of educational materials to grade-school children in Africa.
  • Overseas experiences are available through study-abroad programs and service groups. Many foreign language students go abroad, and students can also take part in an annual summer trip to Costa Rica and other locations around the world. Recent service-group trips have taken students to Russia and El Salvador. About fifty students study abroad each year as part of programs through the college and its relationship with other universities, offering students study-abroad options at thirty-seven universities in twenty-four countries.
  • Students also extend the educational experience through research projects both on and off campus and during the summers. Research opportunities for Mount Union students are especially strong in the sciences.
