Focus on active learning
All social-work majors work at least 450 hours in a professional setting. Science students can work alongside scientists at the Lake Superior Research Institute on campus or at state and federal research labs in the Superior-Duluth metro area. Teacher education majors begin working with children on campus and then move into tutoring programs and student teaching in community schools. Music students perform with campus ensembles as well as with the local professional symphony or as freelance musicians.

The UW-Superior campus is fully wired and has wireless network access in many buildings and outdoor areas. Students enjoy online access to the library, course registration, grades, financial accounts, and course management information. Free Internet and cable TV access is available in all residence hall rooms. Students can bring their own computers to connect to the campus network or use the student computer labs found in most academic buildings and all residence halls. All students get a university computer account that includes e-mail and network storage. Specialized labs are available for computer science and geographic information systems, and the technology help desk is available to help students with technical problems.

The admission process at University of Wisconsin-Superior is holistic and considers class rank, high school course selection, and ACT/SAT scores, as well as non-acdemic factors including leadership, community service, unique talents, and personal characteristics that contribute to the diversity of the university.
How to apply to UW-Superior
Students applying to enter UW-Superior as freshmen should submit the following items to our Admissions Office after September 15 but preferably before April 1:
1. A completed UW System application for admission. Apply online at http://apply.wisconsin.edu
2. A $44 nonrefundable application fee payable to UW-Superior.
3. An official transcript of all high school credit completed. Students who have not graduated at the time of application should arrange to have their high school forward a final transcript to UW-Superior.
4. Scores from the American College Test (ACT) or from the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Submission of ACT/SAT results is optional for applicants age 20 or older.
5. Applicants who wish to be admitted on the basis of high school equivalency must submit official documents such as the Certificate of General Education Development (GED) or other appropriate certificate. Include an official transcript of GED scores.
Financial Aid
UW-Superior offers a variety of merit-based scholarships, and need-based financial assistance to students who are admitted to the university. More than 90 percent of students receive some type of financial aid.
The Tuition Award Program (TAP) provides funding to non-residents students. It significantly reduces the cost of out of sate tuition, making UW-Superior an affordable option. Students must apply for the TAP funding.
A combination of need-based grants, student employment and college loan programs may be awarded to help students meet the cost of college. Enrolling freshmen are eligible for scholarships ranging up to four years of full tuition. UW-Superior offers tuition reciprocity for students from Minnesota and an opportunity to receive out-of-state tuition waivers for students from other states. Continuing students are eligible for UW-Superior Foundation Scholarships through their academic programs
