Participate, learn and grow
Study biology and you could be collecting microbes 150 feet under water. Major in physics and you might find yourself photographing binary stars. Do research for a political science class and you could be presenting your work to a major professional conference such as the Western Political Science Association. Across the curriculum, E&H professors prepare students by encouraging research and providing them with research opportunities that most college students do not receive until graduate school.
Each year, Emory & Henry features close to 100 concerts, lectures, theatre and dance performances, films, exhibits, and poetry readings that help to complete your academic experience. The vast majority of these events are part of the college's popular Lyceum program. In addition, we host each November a literary festival. Emory & Henry College is a four-year, residential, coeducational liberal arts and sciences college.
Location
Our campus encompasses 331 pristine acres in the village of Emory, Virginia, in the Virginia Highlands, one-half mile off Interstate 81 (exit 26) and 40 minutes from a major regional airport. The campus is within view of Virginia's two highest peaks, Mount Rogers and Whitetop Mountain, and is near the historic town of Abingdon, Virginia, home of the renowned Barter Theatre. Also within easy driving distance is the metropolitan Tri-Cities region of Bristol, Johnson City, and Kingsport.

Emory & Henry enrolls just over 1,000 students. The student body is approximately 50% male and 50% female. Currently, 25 states, 7 foreign countries, and one territory are represented.

The student-to-teacher ratio is 10/1 and of 327 classes, 122 classes have enrollments of between two and nine students.

Academic programs
Emory & Henry's liberal arts curriculum spans more than 25 programs of study, including our interdisciplinary programs, which allow students to combine classes from more than one subject area to create a more specialized major.
Athletics
Emory & Henry participates in NCAA Division III, is a member of the respected Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), and fields teams in men's football, soccer, basketball, golf, baseball, cross country, and tennis, and in women's cross country, volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer, tennis, and swimming.

The mean combined (verbal and math) SAT scores of E&H students is 1002. The mean combined (verbal and math) ACT score is 23. Their average high school grade point average was 3.45.
After graduation
Within nine months of graduation, 67 percent of the previous graduating classes found jobs and 31 percent went to graduate schools.
Emory & Henry welcomes all qualified applicants for admission to the college. Our academic requirements include four years of high school English, three units of math (Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry), two laboratory science courses, two years of the same foreign language, and two years of social studies or history.
Admission counselors will also evaluate academic performance in high school, including the senior year curriculum, GPA, class rank, and standardized test scores. Our Financial Aid Office works to make it possible for students to receive an Emory & Henry education without taking on a large financial burden. Altogether, we distribute more than $15 million a year in aid to qualified students. Compared to other private colleges, our annual out-of-pocket expenses are among the lowest in Virginia.
