- At Daemen College the curriculum places equal value on the liberal learning skills that enhance a student’s major or program. - Daemen’s Office of Career Services helps students find an internship or co-op position so that they can gain real-world experience in their area of interest. Employers run the gamut and include business, the sports industry, the arts, government, health-related entities, non-profits, educational institutions, and cultural organizations. The opportunities are local, national, or international - including excellent opportunities with the Washington Internship Institute.
- Daemen College's LEADS Center serves as a clearinghouse for students aspiring to realize and develop their leadership skills. The LEADS program affords Daemen students the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to bring purpose, meaning, and integrity into their lives, and consequentially the lives of others. The program emphasizes life long learning through interdisciplinary programs that provide and encourage the development of consciousness of self and foster inclusive, collaborative relationships.
- Daemen believes in "learning through service." During their time at Daemen, virtually all undergraduate students engage in various service learning activities. Students from every major and class level participate as individuals or groups in short-term and long-term projects or assignments that benefit the local, national, or global communities. Students work with environmental organizations, refugee groups, environmental agencies, nursing homes, hospitals and clinics, and tutoring and mentoring programs in city schools, just to name a few of the hundreds of possibilities.
- Daemen College holds an annual Academic Festival. The Festival celebrates the academic accomplishments of students in a day-long event during which students present publicly in many formats the research findings from their various projects.
- All seniors complete a culminating capstone/research experience, many presenting them to the community during the Academic Festival.
- In today's global economy, it makes sense to learn all you can about different cultures, political systems, and histories. International study is strongly encouraged, with opportunities for semesters abroad, summer programs, and accelerated January term trips.

Student Centered.
- The Core Curriculum at Daemen College has an innovative approach to learning that enables students to develop seven essential skills and competencies that complement their majors. Upon graduation, students are expected to have mastered critical thinking and creative problem solving, information literacy, communication skills, affective awareness, moral and ethical discernment, contextual competency, and civic responsibility. Daemen is also known for integrating service learning into its Core Curriculum.
- Daemen offers core curriculum courses to freshmen in a format known as Learning Communities. This format allows students to move through the first year of the core curriculum in smaller groups made up of students from different backgrounds with differing majors and extra-curricular interests. In a learning community a common topic, issue, or subject is studied from the perspective of two or more disciplines, making for a broader, richer learning experience.
- The Student/Faculty Interdisciplinary Think Tank offers students the opportunity to work with a faculty member on a significant research project. Students receive research scholarships and acknowledgement of their work through publications, showings, presentations, or other forms of public recognition.
- Daemen has a close professional and collaborative association among all members of the College community while maintaining a student-centered atmosphere. Assisted by a supportive faculty, Daemen students are encouraged to pursue goals beyond their initial expectations, to respond to academic challenges, and to develop habits of mind that enrich their lives and their community.
- Daemen offers a variety of academic support services. The Academic Advisement office offers students comprehensive support to meet their diverse needs. Each student is advised/mentored by a full-time faculty member or professional. Also offered is a Peer Mentoring Program and an early alert system to reach out to students whose class performance suggests that something in their lives is interfering with their academic performance.
- Learning Center services are available to assist students during the academic year. All students at Daemen can access services to meet their needs and promote their success: academic coaches, supplemental instruction, peer led team learning, English as a second language, or disability services. Workshops, open to all, are offered each semester on such topics as: note taking, test preparation, test taking strategies, raising your GPA, time management, and study skills.
- Daemen College has an Honors Program that challenges students' minds and cultivates their potential to contribute both to the community and to the world at large. Students who have demonstrated excellence in learning can benefit from honors courses, which examine complex issues from multiple perspectives, use primary sources rather than textbooks, and present special opportunities for research and a variety of experience-based learning opportunities. Honors students oversee their own student organization,with activities including films, speakers, field trips, and community service projects.

- Daemen knows that there's more to being a student than just sitting in a classroom or studying at the library. Daemen believes that now is the time to discover exactly who you are. Cultivating your hidden talents, taking new risks, and challenging yourself to grow are all part of the Daemen experience. - Housing on the Daemen campus is provided in two distinct residential environments. Campus Village, a complex of seven two-story apartment style buildings, provides housing for upper division status students. Canavan Hall is a five story suite-style residence hall for first year students.
- Trained Residence Life staff members are available to assist students with their social, academic, and personal needs in the belief that a student's place of residence is an integral part of the total educational experience. Resident students work with staff to plan and conduct activities designed to enhance cooperation and develop a sense of community in the residence halls.
- Student activities provide for the development of the whole person outside of the class room. The student activities director on campus helps students participate in recognized organizations, form new ones, and plan events. All students are encouraged to join in extracurricular activities. With over 50 student organizations the possibilities for involvement at Daemen are limitless. Whether your interests are in art or skiing there is bound to be something that grabs your interest and introduces you to students who share similar passions.

- Daemen graduates move quickly into careers of their choice and do well in those careers. They are also well prepared if they decide to change careers. (Studies show that college graduates will change jobs between six and nine times during their working lives.)
- Daemen graduates are informed citizens, prepared to play productive roles in local and global communities both as effective participants and leaders. They make reasoned ethical choices and consider connections between values and behavior. They can effectively access, evaluate, and apply relevant and valid information using a variety of information resources. They have the writing and speaking skills necessary for effective communication.

- Mary Ann Eposito, ’64: 11 cookbooks and a cooking show on PBS
- Ciao Italia! is the registered trademark of one of the College’s most visible daughter, Mary Ann Saporito Esposito, who graduated in 1964 from Rosary Hill College, with a degree in history and secondary education, and a strong desire to be a history teacher.
- Forty years later, Mary Ann is still teaching, but in a venue far removed from her original version.
- Ciao Italia! is seen on about 270 PBS stations across the U.S. and beyond.
- Despite her visibility, and strenuous work and travel schedules that include at least two trips to Italy a year (much of it filming show segments), Mary Ann hasn’t forgotten growing up in Depew, where she was the oldest of seven children. She also has strong memories of practice-teaching history in Buffalo’s Seneca Vocational High School, and, of course, her Rosary Hill experience.
- The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that Sue Falsone, a 1996 graduate of Daemen College and a former Town of Tonawanda resident, has been named a member of their medical department, making her Major League Baseball’s first-ever female physical therapist. Falsone is Director of Performance Physical Therapy for Athletes’ Performance, a private sports performance training company, based in Phoenix, Arizona.
- Falsone holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Daemen, and a Masters degree in human movement science with a concentration in sports medicine from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
- “I always found sports medicine very interesting,” Falsone said. “Athletic training, strength and conditioning, and, of course, physical therapy. Usually you have to choose one field to specialize in. But at Athletes’ Performance, we provide a continuum of care for professional and other world-class athletes, and I am able to engage in all three specialties. My passion has always been to blend all three, and through our full partnerships with major league sports teams and other top athletes, I am able to make a real difference in their training and performance, and rehab from injuries.”
- The Jones Firm provides legal representation for individuals and businesses in a variety of areas of the law. Specifically: Entertainment & Intellectual Property, Sports Law, Corporate and Business Law.
- “The most important lesson that I’ve learned is that failure is just a stepping stone to success. Each time you try something that doesn’t work, you can never lose the lesson; each time you fall, you are that much closer to succeeding, but if you never try then you will never know. Failure is something that you can’t be afraid of, just accept that it is going to happen sometimes but take what you learn and apply it on your next project. Each time you do that, you’re starting at a different, more educated position than the last time.”
- Dr. Thomas P. Koestler’s health care career has carried him to an executive position at Schering-Plough, one of the country’s major pharmaceutical research institutes. His career accomplishments include 62 product approvals for drugs treating medical conditions from arthritis and Alzheimer’s disease to hypertension, glaucoma, malaria, and transplant rejection. Dr. Koestler has authored or co-authored 22 scientific articles and abstracts, acquired clinical research experience in several divergent fields including rheumatology, oncology and pulmonary cough/colds, and produced one patent.
- At the Schering-Plough Research Institute, Dr. Koestler is executive vice president for global affairs and global project management, with responsibilities including strengthening links between global pharmaceutical business operations and the research institute, and serving as an interface between the company and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and its counterpart in other countries such as Japan, and the European Medicine Evaluation Agency. Dr. Koestler joined the company in 2003.
- Dr. Koestler is a self proclaimed “true-Buffalonian,” having grown up in Buffalo’s Parkside/Hertel/Starin neighborhoods. He credits Daemen as having cemented his desire to pursue a career in health care.
Jennifer Gurske MD ’99, ‘02, Over achiever PT now orthopedic Surgery
- Jennifer Gurske de Perio has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the field of medicine, as well as her community. While a student at Daemen, Jennifer’s long list of honors and accomplishments included receiving the Daemen College President’s Leadership Award and the Daemen College Physical Therapy Faculty Recognition Award in 1999; being listed in Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities 1998, 1999; making the National and Daemen College Dean’s List, and, also, receiving the College’s Mary A. LoCurto Community Service Scholarship, in 1997.
- Professionally, Jennifer is a member of the Curriculum and Interview Committees, in the Orthopaedic Surgery Department, at the University at Buffalo; she is also an Assistant Professor at Daemen, teaching graduate-level courses in the Physical Therapy Program. In addition, Jennifer serves as a wound care expert, and management consultant to the Wound Management Team at McAuley Seton Home Care in Cheektowaga.
- Currently, after having completed her degree at the University at Buffalo Medical School, Jennifer is performing her residency in Orthopaedic surgery in the Kaleida Health Care System. Jennifer also participates in charity and community-based organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity.
- Lynn Marinelli is one of the most well-known elected leaders in Erie County. Representing the Legislature’s 11th District, encompassing portions of North Buffalo, Kenmore, and Tonawanda, she was first elected to the Erie County Legislature in 1996. Marinelli has won re-election five times, and is presently Chair of the Legislature.
- Marinelli served as Majority Leader in 2004/2005. She is past chair of the Government Affairs and Community Enrichment Committees and past vice chair of the Finance, Management & Budget and Energy & Environment Committees. Additionally, Marinelli initiated the Charter Review Commission to bring about reforms and fiscal stability to Erie County government. Additionally, Lynn led the efforts that created a Management and Restoration Plan for Buffalo’s Olmsted Parks.
- Lynn has a long record of involvement in Western New York community service. Some of the many awards recognizing her wide-ranging contributions include the Erie Community College Faculty Federation 'Friend of Education' (1999); Crisis Services Commendation (1998); Town of Tonawanda Democratic Committee Woman of the Year (1997); Business First “40 Under Forty” (1993); ECC Coalition Against Family Violence Distinguished Achievement (1992); and the Business and Professional Women Young Careerist Award (1991).
- Margaret (Meg) Quinn ‘73, is artistic director of the Theatre of Youth (TOY) Company in Buffalo. TOY describes its mission as that of a non-profit theater company dedicated to “the enhancement of life in the community through the enrichment, education, and entertainment of young audiences.”
- It all started in 1973 with Rosary Hill College following her graduation. The theatre group began at Rosary Hill when two professors decided to start a children’s theater and invited Meg – a senior at the time – to join.
- “TOY grew out of the mind and thoughts of Rosary Hill,” says Meg. “The company literally started in a closet, on the second floor of Daemen Theatre. We had a broom closet, a manual typewriter, a file cabinet, and a chair. We held garage sales to raise money, and kept the earnings in a cigar box under my desk.”
- TOY is now in its 33rd year of delighting elementary school-age children; Quinn has been involved for 21 of those years, and has earned a Graduate degree from the International Studies for Creativity program at Buffalo State College. (Combined with her foundation in theatre from Rosary Hill, and her affinity for acting, writing, and the magic of children’s special spirit, it has helped her lead TOY to the strong community profile it enjoys today.)

At Daemen, our Admissions staff will help guide you through the process from start to finish. Daemen offers a rolling admissions policy. The average student enrolled has a 90 GPA and 1050 SAT. Daemen also has a "test optional" policy which provides you with a choice regarding the submission of standardized test scores. This policy was designed for students who have demonstrated academic excellence in the classroom and who do not believe their standardized test scores accurately reflect their abilities.
