California Baptist University

California Baptist University provides a Christ-centered educational experience that integrates rigorous academics with spiritual and social development opportunities.

California Baptist University (CBU), located in Riverside, California, is a private, comprehensive university affiliated with the California Southern Baptist Convention. It offers traditional and online undergraduate study programs, including more than 175 majors, minors and concentrations. Students at CBU enjoy smaller class sizes where the student-to-professor ratio is 18:1, a setting that allows for more mentoring opportunities, personal interactions with professors, and meaningful academic support. Faculty members are involved in research and publication, but their first priority is teaching.

Engaged Students

No matter the academic program, students actively participate in an environment of integrated faith and learning, all under the guidance of top-notch professors who will mentor them inside and outside the classroom.

  • Local, regional, and national-level internships offer hands-on learning experiences while preparing students to work in a competitive marketplace.
  • Study abroad opportunities during the summer or semester terms include more than 30 different international locations in which to study and to travel. CBU has educational exchange partnership agreements in China, Korea, Russia, and Rwanda. In addition, the University partners with Cultural Experiences Abroad, International Studies Broad, Hong Kong Baptist University and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) to provide additional study opportunities around the world. The CCCU’s off-campus study programs include the American Studies program in Washington, D.C.; the Contemporary Music Program that offers artist and executive tracks; the Los Angeles Film Studies Center; the Washington Journalism Center.
  • Students, faculty and staff volunteer each year to participate in either the U.S. Service Project (USP) or CBU’s flagship International Service Project (ISP). ISP and USP teams include 10-12 students and team leaders who are CBU faculty or staff.

Great Teaching

California Baptist University’s goal is to help students reach their highest potential in scholarship, leadership, and service and to live the purpose for which they were intended.

  • CBU faculty members focus on teaching, because they genuinely want students to learn. Small class sizes allow opportunities for students to actively participate in the educational process.
  • In addition to classroom instruction, faculty actively advise and mentor students, conduct field trips and travel courses, and engage students in service learning and research projects.
  • Through the use of technology, faculty can interact with students no matter where they are. CBU offers traditional and online classes, as well as hybrid formats that include both.

Vibrant Community

The CBU college experience is much more than academic. The most memorable years of a student’s life will likely be made discovering his or her purpose with exciting times and close friends.  It’s possible to go to class, the mountains, the beach and the desert in the same day. California Baptist University students never get bored because...there is so much to do at CBU and nearby.

On campus, CBU community life provides quite a journey! A wide variety of campus organizations allow students to have fun while interacting with others. In addition, CBU offers campus activities that promote a well-rounded experience. For more information about events on campus, go to http://www.calbaptist.edu/cab/

Successful Outcomes

California Baptist University provides academic programs that prepare students for professional careers, as well as co-curricular programs that foster an environment supporting the intellectual, physical, social and spiritual development of each student. Within these arenas of the student experience, the University’s faculty and administration have identified student outcomes as desirable and reflective of the impact it seeks to have in the lives of its students. Upon completion of a degree program, each student at California Baptist University should be able to: (1) Demonstrate spiritual literacy, including Biblical Christian faith and practice, Baptist perspectives, and the role of the Christian in fulfilling the Great Commission, (2) Respect diverse religious, cultural, philosophical, and aesthetic experiences and perspectives, (3) Use critical thinking skills to demonstrate literacy: listening, speaking, writing, reading, viewing and visual presentations, (4) Demonstrate competence in mathematical, scientific, and technological skills, (5) Transfer academic studies to a profession and the workplace, (6) Implement a personal and social ethic that results in informed participation in multiple levels of community.

These student outcomes are distilled as the “Core 4”: Academically Prepared; Biblically Rooted; Globally Minded; and Equipped to Serve.
